Welcome to Luminosit (“we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of www.luminosit.com and all of its calculators, articles, and content (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised Terms.

What Luminosit Is — and Isn’t

Luminosit is an independent, ad-supported site about light and illumination science. Its calculators produce educational estimatesfrom the figures you enter and standard photometric formulas — converting between lumens and lux, estimating lumen output from wattage, sizing a room’s lighting requirement, converting between candela and lumens, projecting illuminance at a distance, and comparing the running cost of LED and older lamps. These estimates are general information only. Luminosit is not an electrician, an electrical or lighting engineer, a lighting designer, or an energy consultant, and using the Service does not create any professional relationship. For real installations, wiring, and safety-critical lighting, a qualified professional working to the relevant codes and standards is the authority.

Use the Estimates as a Starting Point

Real lighting behaves differently from an idealized formula. A room’s actual illuminance depends on wall and ceiling reflectance, fixture efficiency and light-loss factors, mounting height, luminaire spacing, and how each product is manufactured; a lamp’s real lumen output and colour rendering vary by brand and age; and energy savings depend on the tariff you actually pay and the hours you actually run the lights. Treat every result as a figure to understand your options and sanity-check a plan or a quote — not as a guaranteed outcome — and confirm anything involving electrical work or workplace and safety lighting with a qualified professional before you act.

The site’s text, layout, calculators, and code are the property of Luminosit or its licensors and are protected by copyright. Where an article draws on openly licensed reference material, that material remains under its own licence. You may use the tools for personal, non-commercial purposes; you may not copy, resell, or reverse-engineer the site’s software or remove its notices.

No Warranty

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We aim for correct formulas and sensible defaults, but we do not warrant that results are error-free, complete, or suitable for your specific room, fixture, installation, or budget, or that the site will always be available. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Luminosit and its suppliers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — including specifying the wrong lamp or fixture, under- or over-lighting a space, unexpected energy costs, or any electrical hazard — that arise from your use of, or inability to use, the Service. You are responsible for confirming figures with a qualified electrician or lighting professional, and for following the relevant codes and standards, before carrying out electrical work or relying on the results for safety lighting.

The site displays third-party advertising (including Google AdSense) and may link to third-party retailers or resources, including affiliate links through the Amazon Associates programme. We don’t control and aren’t responsible for their content, prices, or practices, and a link is not an endorsement. Use them at your own risk and review their terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of its competent courts for any dispute arising from the Service.
